Important Announcement
from RoseMarie Battisti,

Executive Director, Asian Children Services Humanitarian Corp

Dear Friends of Asian Children Services,

After much careful thought and discussion I have come to the decision to phase out ACS's Viet Nam adoption program. As you may know, ACS supported our programs throughout the 3 1/2 year shutdown due to your generosity and the financial sacrifice of my family and staff.

Receiving our license from the Ministry of Justice in January 2006 was a proud accomplishment and as this year has progressed, we have been able to place all of the children who were in our program at the time of the shutdown, as well as new children .

Finding families for these children is of course what we work for. In 1993, when I was invited to Viet Nam to help find families for these orphans, we were honored to be part of that important task. Throughout the years I am happy to say that my staff and I have assisted over 350 children find their families.

During this past year there have been at least 36 American adoption agencies that have been licensed to work in Viet Nam. Adoption agencies from other countries are licensed as well, and combined, this totals nearly 60 agencies. In addition to this large number, the Vietnamese government is also taking welcome steps to encourage more adoptions by Vietnamese families.

All of these changes have led me to feel that our efforts are more needed by other less-served members of Vietnamese society. Therefore ACSVHC will phase out our adoption programs and maintain some of our humanitarian programs. It is my hope that we will be able to continue our projects with the elderly and our registration project for the residents of the boat villages in Thai Binh Province that is being accomplished in cooperation with their Department of Justice.

It has been both an honor and a humbling experience to be a part of the fabric of many of the stories of how the ACS families came to be. Each one of the children we have helped to bring home is very special to us.

If you are interested in supporting our humanitarian programs in Viet Nam, we would graciously welcome your donation. We will continue to update our web site so that you can follow our progress.

News Alert!

Thai Binh Province Project

The project that we are sponsoring with Department of Justice in Thai Binh Province is in full swing!

On a visit to Thai Binh Province last week I was able to see how much work has already gone into the project to register children whose families live on boats for birth certificates. Since the project started the working group has been in four villages . They have held meetings with village leaders, border police and medical people to inform them of the project details. Brochures have been developed and printed up explain the project. Families in the four villages have been visited and registration has been completed for birth certificates for 64 children. This is a project that spans both the legal and human services communities. It will have a lasting effect on the lives of the families served by this program. We are looking for ways to raise funds for the continuation of the project. It would be a great opportunity for a legal group or human services group to take on as a project. ACS is committed to trying to raise $7000 to continue the project for 10 more villages. A group could sponsor the registration of a village for $700.

As I see the results of this project it brings home to me that the need for humanitarian projects in many areas of work in Viet Nam is great and can have a large impact even if in a small area.

ACS Granted License of Operations!

Asian Children Services VHC is happy to announce that we have been granted a license of operations by the Ministry of Justice in Viet Nam. ACSVHC is licensed to work in the Provinces of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Ha Tinh and Thai Binh.

All are Provinces where we have worked in the past. We have continued to do humanitarian projects in these areas throughout the shutdown. We are still accepting applications from families and singles. Our first families travelled in May and are now back in the United States. We expect other groups to travel throughout the rest of the year.

Unlike many other agencies who have programs in a number of countries, ACSVHC only operates in two countries: Viet Nam and Guatemala. With only two programs we are very committed to both .The entire ACSVHC staff is dedicated to making your adoption journey a positive experience as we guide you through the process .The country directors and I travel to the countries and see and get to know the children and our orphanage and hogar staff. We are proud to be a part of your adoption story!

Please contact our office at (315) 823-0509 or RBattisti@aol.com for more information on our adoption or sponsorship programs.

Bac Giang Orphanage Renovations

In April we started the first of what we hope will be the renovations of all four of our orphanages. Building new walls, painting, adding a sink with hot water in the baby room and preparing the laundry room has been finished . Our next steps are to purchase a washing machine, baby cribs, dressers ,and bouncy seats. So much can now be purchased in Viet Nam that we will be accepting donations for specific items and sending donors a photo of the item at the Orphanages.

Thai Binh DOJ Project

ACSVHC is pleased to announce that we are sponsoring a new and exciting initiative proposed to us by the Department of Justice in Thai Binh Province. Thai Binh is a coastal Province where many of its citizens are fishermen. Approximately 37 villages have residents who live on boats full time. These residents often are not aware of the legal procedures necessary to comply with Vietnamese law. This project will be an educational project implemented by the Department of Justice to inform these citizens and the people who are in contact with them of the necessity of registering the births of their children with the local government. This will ensure that the children receive the benefits of citizenship including medical care and schooling.
